Transient Laser Absorption Spectroscopy of CH2 near 780 nm

Bands in the CH{sub 2} {tilde b}{sup 1} B{sub 1}-{tilde a}{sup 1} A{sub 1} transition between 12,500 and 13,000 cm{sup -1} were recorded at Doppler-limited resolution using a transient frequency-modulation (FM) laser absorption spectrometer. Rotational levels in seven upper vibronic states: {tilde a}(a, 11, 0){sup 1,3}, {tilde a}(2, 6,0){sup 1}, {tilde b}(0, 2, 0){sup 4}, {tilde b}(1, 1, 0){sup 1,2}, and {tilde b}(0, 3, 0){sup 1} were assigned with the assistance of optical-optical double resonance (OODR) and ground state combination differences. Perturbations due to rotation-vibration coupling, anharmonic couplings, {ell}-resonance, as well as the Renner-Teller effect are discussed as sources of the irregular rotational patterns observed in the {tilde b}(0, 3, 0){sup 1}, {tilde b}(1, 1, 0){sup 1}, and {tilde a}(0, 11, 0){sup 3} vibronic levels.
