Comparison of Ignitor and LITE type compact ignition tokamak design space

Conference ·
OSTI ID:1024760
The Fusion Engineering Design Center (FEDC) Tokamak Systems Code (TSC) has been coupled to a numerical optimization routine and is used to perform design space comparisons of Ignitor and LITE type Compact Ignition Tokamaks (CITs). This code permits a nearly uniform approach to the included design limits such as beta and coil stresses. One use of the code is to calculate minimum sizes for ignition under Kaye-Goldston (K-G) scaling, and preliminary results show Ignitor can be reudced to a 1m major radius, and LITE to {approx_equal} 1.3 m major radius. The dependence of the maximum ignition margin on allowable MVA supplies under constant current ramp-up time are also shown.
