Dynamic security assessment and voltage stability: Two coordinated workshops: Proceedings. Volume 2, Voltage stability workshop

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:10182309

As power systems are operated at increased stress, utilities are becoming more concerned about voltage stability. An EPRI workshop on this topic, coordinated with a second EPRI workshop on dynamic security assessment clearly showed that industry understanding of the voltage stability problem has matured in many respects. While EPRI`s voltage stability analysis tooled (VSTAB) is adequate for conducting static voltage stability analyses, utility VSTAB experience is limited, calling for more extensive use. Participants indicated that the contingencies that cause voltage instability may not be encountered in traditional static or dynamic security analyses. In addition, workshop participants developed requirements for an on-line VSTAB.
