Windsor workshop on alternative fuels: Proccedings
Alternative transportation fuels and their environmental impacts were discussed, concentrating on technical progress, the importance of alternative fuels in the world marketplace, and the challenges facing the alternative fuel industry. There were 208 participants from 11 countries. Participants included engine and vehicle manufacturers, aftermarket conversion companies, fuel suppliers, public and private research organizations, and academic and regulatory bodies. Emission standards for alternative fuel engines and vehicles of all types, and emission durability impacts were the principal topics of discussion. The advantages of alternative transportation fuels such as methanol, ethanol, propane and liquefied natural gas were emphasized throughout, including a reduction in NO{sub x} emissions and better overall fuel economies. The need for improving the distribution systems throughout North America was seen as one of the most important stimulator of increased use of alternative fuels. Refs., tabs., figs.
