The staff of the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission has prepared Volume 1 of a safety evaluation report (SER), ``NRC Review of Electric Power Research Institute`s Advanced Light Water Reactor Utility Requirements Document -- Program Summary,`` to document the results of its review of the Electric Power Research Institute`s ``Advanced Light Water Reactor Utility Requirements Document.`` This SER provides a discussion of the overall purpose and scope of the Requirements Document, the background of the staff`s review, the review approach used by the staff, and a summary of the policy and technical issues raised by the staff during its review.
