Focusing on customer needs has become an important part of the long-term success strategy for utilities. To help utilities become more customer-focused, the Electrical Power Research Institute (EPRI) began the Customer-Focused Planning (CFP) project. This report details the results of the first phase of one CFP project that involved collecting CFP working papers, conference presentations, and unpublished documents. A team of experts then traced the evolution of the CFPs conceptual framework by analyzing the collection. From their analysis emerged concepts and tools for improving a utility`s product and service delivery. Other reports in the CFP series supplement these findings by presenting tools and guidelines that help measure a utility`s customer commitment. Helping utilities become more competitive by improving their business planning process is the long-term goal of the CFP report series.
