Pattern recognition techniques trace their history back at least 40 years. Applications of pattern recognition techniques to analytical chemistry originated in the 1950`s. Several excellent textbooks, articles, and reviews are available to the interested reader; what follows is an abbreviated discussion of pattern recognition and relevant applications.
