Flash photolysis-shock tube studies of biomolecular reactions

Three experiments were completed during the past year. The rate constant for the reaction O + CH{sub 3}Cl {yields} OH + CH{sub 2}Cl at 556 to 1485 K, was determined to be k{sub 1} = 2.57 {times} 10{sup {minus}11}T{sup 0.31}exp(-5633 K/T)cm{sup 3}/molecule{center_dot}s. The rate constant for the reaction N + NO {yields} N{sub 2} + O at 1251-3152 K, was determined to be k{sub 3} = (3.7{plus_minus}0.9){times}10{sup {minus}11}cm{sup 3}/molecule{center_dot}s. The pyrolysis of CH{sub 3}Cl can be represented by the Arrhenius equation, k{sub 5} = 9.6{times}10{sup 9}exp(-27449 K/T)s{sub {minus}1}. The pyrolysis photolysis-shock tube technique was used to study the O + CH{sub 3} reaction at 1609 to 1972 K; fits to O-atom profiles gives the T-independent rate constant k{sub 6} = (1.4{plus_minus}0.3){times}10{sup {minus}10}cm{sup 3}/molecule{center_dot}s. 1 fig., 14 refs.
