Electric Energy Systems announces on a monthly basis the current worldwide information available on power transmission, reliability research, electric field effects, polymer and superconductor materials research, and policy. This publication contains the abstracts of DOE reports, journal articles, conference papers, patents, theses, and monographs added to the Energy Science and Technology Database during the past month. Also included are US information obtained through acquisition programs or interagency agreements and international information obtained through the International Energy Agency`s Energy Technology Data Exchange or government-to-government agreements. The Electric Energy Systems Program supports research to accomplish three major objectives: (1) determine the biological effects of high voltage electric and magnetic fields, (2) develop technology options that will insure the present and future reliability of the nation`s electric energy network under normal and emergency operating conditions, and (3) improve the efficiency of electric system transmission and distribution through the development of new materials and other advanced technologies and concepts. The projects sponsored by EES will help form the basis for a continuous future supply of energy in the most cost effective and safe manner possible while meeting national security and human safety goals.
