Test Area North Groundwater interim action at Idaho National Engineering Laboratory. [Environmental assessment]
This Proposed Plan describes alternatives for an interim action that is being considered to reduce the contamination near the injection well and in the surrounding groundwater at the Test Area North (TAN) at the Idaho National Engineering Laboratory (INEL). The injection well is located at the Technical Support Facility in the central part of TAN which consists of facilities for storing, examining, and managing spent nuclear fuels. This plan highlights the preferred interim remedial action proposed by the US Department of Energy (DOE), with the agreement of the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare (IDHW). The plan was developed and is issued in accordance with Section 117(a) of the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA). This plan also meets DOE requirements for evaluating the environmental impacts of all the alternatives.
