Tunnel Magnetoresistance in La0.7Ca0.3MnO3/PrBa2Cu3O7/La0.7Ca0.3MnO3

DOI:https://doi.org/10.1063/1.2162674· OSTI ID:1003394
We report large tunneling magnetoresistance in La{sub 0.7}Ca{sub 0.3}MnO{sub 3} (8 nm)/PrBa{sub 2}Cu{sub 3}O{sub 7} (2.4 nm)/La{sub 0.7}Ca{sub 0.3}MnO{sub 3} (50 nm) junctions. The coherent growth of the cuprate on the manganite allows the deposition of ultrathin barriers which are continuous and flat over long lateral distances. Epitaxial strain causes the top layer to be a weaker ferromagnet without a significant decrease in the spin polarization.
