Title: Influence of long-term thermal aging (50,000 h) on the Charpy V-notch properties of modified 9Cr-1Mo steel

Results are reported from an ongoing program aimed at determining the influence of time at temperature on key mechanical properties of modified 9Cr-1Mo steel. Two heats of nearly identical chemistry except for silicon content were isothermally aged at temperatures from 482 to 704{degree}C. Following aging, Charpy V-notch impact tests were conducted to determine shifts in the ductile-to-brittle transition temperature (DBTT) following aging. Changes in the DBTT are given as a function of time and temperature for both the low (0.11 wt %) and high (0.40 wt %) silicon heats. The DBTT was increased by 50,000 h of aging in the temperature range of 482 to 593{degree}C for both heats and material. Although both grain boundary and subboundary structure were stable in this temperature range, quantitative microscopy showed that considerable precipitation of various phases occurred. The increase in the DBTT was attributed to these changes in the microstructure. 12 refs., 15 figs., 5 tabs.
