Effects of electrochemical reactions on electroslag welds of 2-1/4 Cr-1 Mo steel were evaluated using a CaF/sub 2/-10% Al/sub 2/O/sub 3/ flux. Results indicate that a major fraction of the chemical modification observed in the dc electroslag welding process can be attributed to electrochemical reactions, which offer the possibility for enhanced control of the chemistry of the fusion zone. 11 figures.
