Technical Report ·
DOI:https://doi.org/10.2172/1855832· OSTI ID:1855832

The purpose of this Corrective Action Decision Document/Closure Report is to justify and recommend that no further action is required at CAU 321. To achieve this, the following is required: • Review the current site conditions based on corrective action investigation results. • Justify the application of a use restriction on the CAU to encompass the contaminated soils. • Document closure of the CAU. A corrective action investigation was performed in February 1999 as set forth in the Corrective Action Investigation Plan for Corrective Action Unit 321: Area 22 Weather Station Fuel Storage, Nevada Test Site, Nevada (DOE/NV, 1999b). In subsequent remediation activities, the extent of contamination was found to be much greater than originally anticipated. As a result, the Addendum to the Corrective Action Investigation Plan for Corrective Action Unit 321: Area 22 Weather Station Fuel Storage, Nevada Test Site, Nevada (DOE/NV, 2000a) was prepared and a supplemental corrective action investigation was performed in January and February 2001. The purpose of the corrective action investigation is described as follows: • Identify the presence, distribution, and concentrations of contaminants of potential concern (COPCs) at the CAU. • Determine the vertical and lateral extent of COPCs. • Provide sufficient information and data to develop appropriate corrective actions for the CAU.
