In this work a study was made of the solidus temperature and phase compositions of tungsten alloys containing 10 and 20% total iron, cobalt, and nickel at 1400 and 1200/sup 0/ C. According to the data of metallographic and x-ray analyses the isostructural incongruently melting upsilon-phases Fe/sub 7/W/sub 6/ and Co/sub 7/W/sub 6/ in the W-Fe-Co system form a continuous series of (Fe, Co) /SUB 7W/ /sub 6/ solid solutions, the temperature of the start of fusion of which is 1640-1630/sup 0/ C. With the addition to W-Fe-Co system alloys of approximately 1 and 2% Ni their solidus temperature drops sharply to 1460-1470/sup 0/ C. With an increase in Ni content to 3 and 6% it is practically unchanged and only with 10 and 20% Ni does it increase to 1500 C (melting point of alpha + gamma eutectic in the W-Fi system where alpha + gamma are the tungsten-and nickel-base boundary solid solutions, respectively). The data obtained on the influence of Ni additions on the solidus temperature of W-Fe-Co system alloys agrees well with the phase composition of W-Fe-Co-Ni system alloys at 1400/sup 0/ C, which is close to the solidus temperature. Diagrams are included.
