Improvement of and calculations with the two-dimensional space-time kinetics code FX2
From national topical meeting on mathematical models and computational techniques for analysis of nuclear systems; Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA (8 Apr 1973). In mathematical models and computational techniques for analysis of nuclear systems. The FX2 code is intended for use in LMFBR disassembly analyses. It employs a model consisting of two-dimensional (r-z) multigroup diffusion theory, Lagrangian hydrodynamics, an energy balance, and an energy-density-dependent equation of state. A production version of.FX2 is being completed which includes a number of refinements to the original model and solution algorithm. These refinements, coupled with an efficient data management strategy, have significantly reduced the running times of the code. Using a preliminary version of FX2, a hypothetical LMFBR transient resulting in fuel slumping has been analyzed in order to compare the FX2 space-time results with results from point kinetics and static k-difference calculations. 16 references.
