Work being conducted at LASL involved with the simulation of congruent melting materials is described. The work has addressed items relating to the effect of experimental and modeling parameters; minimizing human resource requirements through the use of general purpose heat transfer codes and color microfilm output; comparing finite element and finite difference modeling techniques; and calculating metal flow patterns during mold filling.
