Investigation of induced unimolecular decomposition for development of visible chemical lasers. Quarterly progress report, 1 August 1976--30 October 1976
This report summarizes progress during the second quarterly period of the subject contract. The methods available for the production of excited electronic states following azide decomposition are summarized. It is concluded that an experiment designed to study the kinetics of and branching ratios for electronically excited products from azide radicals reactions will be most productive in elucidating excitation mechanisms for potential chemical lasers. A flow reactor is described in which these studies may be undertaken. The major feature of this apparatus is a clean azide radical source based upon the thermal decomposition of solid, ionic azides. The contruction of the experimental apparatus has been started.
