(Tensile strength measurement techniques for structural ceramics)
The traveler visited Japan to discuss research results on structural ceramics at the Government Industrial Research Institute, Nagoya; to review IEA research plans at the Japan Fine Ceramics Center, Nagoya; to tour the Kyocera ceramic manufacturing complex and the corporate research and development laboratory at Kokubu; to attend the annual meeting of the Japan Fine Ceramics Association (JFCA) and accept the International Prize for Mr. A. A. Chesnes of the US Department of Energy in Tokyo; to visit staff of the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) and of the Agency of Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) in Tokyo; to make a technical presentation to JFCA and MITI staff on fracture analysis results from IEA Annex II research in Tokyo; and to visit the Mechanical Engineering Laboratory of the AIST at Tsukuba.
