Respirator studies for the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health. Progress report, January 1--December 31, 1977
Respirator studies carried out during 1977 for the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health were directed at the development of respirator testing equipment and methods to improve the means for evaluating the performance of respiratory protective equipment. Major efforts included completion of a study comparing respirator quantitative fit-test results as obtained with a liquid aerosol, a solid aerosol, and a gas test agent; completion of a study designed to determine the feasibility of constructing equivalent high-efficiency particulate filters to replace sorbent canisters for quantitative fit test using aerosol test agents; development of quantitative fit-test procedures for powered air-purifying respirators; development of particulate filter service life test methods using NaCl aerosol; and completion of an interlaboratory comparison of NaCl aerosol penetration through mechanical dust, fume, and mist respirator filters.
