Title: Intrinsically irreversible heat engines

Abstract

The concept of an intrinsically irreversible heat engine is examined as a means of obtaining temperatures near absolute zero. These engines use the irreversible process of thermal conduction to achieve the necessary phasing between temperature changes and motion of a primary medium and therefore have only one moving mechanical element.
