THE SM-1 ENVIRONMENTAL RADIOLOGICAL MONITORING PROGRAM, NOVEMBER 1954- DECEMBER 1960
BS>An environmental radiological monitoring program was conducted. All data obtained during a period extending from l 1/2 years prior to SM-1 reactor start-up through more than 3 years of reactor operation are summarized. The period extended from November 1954 through December 1960. Samples assayed for radioactivity include river water and bottom silt, SM-1 condenser cooling water, subsurface ground water, rain and snow, atmospheric particles obtained by air filtration and fallout, and biota. The report concludes that after more than 3 years of SM-1 reactor operation, no significant increase has been noted in the radiological background level in the Fort Belvoir area.
