A process is given for the separation of isotopes by reflux electromigration of fused salts. The process is carried out in a countercurrent manner on a fused mixture of a salt containing the isotopic cations with a salt having the same anion and a cation with a mobility as near as possible to that of the isotopic cations. An electrolytic cell for carrying out the process is described. Examples are presented of the process in which lithium-6 and lithium-7 are separated in a LiBr-KBr mixture, and calcium isotopes are separated in CaBr/sub 2/-KBr and CaBr/sub 2/- LiBr systems.
