Title: Flowsheets for hood 4 laboratory-type hood

Abstract

Hood 4 is a new hood in the Plutorium Reclamation Facility miscellaneous treatment room. Construction on the original design was completed during February, 1966. Initial usage was delayed pending review of necessary additional fixed equipment. Hood 4 is designated as the miscellaneous treatment specialty hood. It has space for glass dissolvers and/or other movable processing equipment. It has a section that can be nitrogen-purged for processing such things as PV lids (containing highly reactive calcium). Hood 4 originally contained only a receiver tank and a vacuum trap tank as fixed equipment. Review of the type material that may be processed in hood 4 led to further fixed equipment recommendstions. A fliter feed tank and pan filter will be installed to aid in processing such things as ash solids. Three fixed condensers will be installed in each of the glass dissolver compartments. This will eliminate any danger from pressurizations that could cause serious problems with flimsy glass reflux condensers. The fixed condensers will be housed in kynar to minimize corrosion problems.
