Distribution functions of air-scattered gamma rays above isotropic plane sources
Using the moments method of Spencer and Fano and a reconstruction technique suggested by Berger, the authors have calculated energy and angular distribution functions for air-scattered gamma rays emitied from infinite-plane isotropic monoenergetic sources as iunctions of source energy, radiation incidence angle at the detector, and detector altitude. Incremental and total buildup factors have been calculated for both number and exposure. The results are presented in tabular form for a detector located at altitudes of 3, 50, 100, 200, 300, 400, 500, and 1000 feet above source planes of 15 discrete energies spanning the range of 0.1 to 3.0 MeV. Calculational techniques including results of sensitivity studies are discussed and plots of typical results are presented. (auth)
