Highlight from kinetic plasma simulation on Badger. IC Project: w18_reconkinetics [Slides]

A 2D fully kinetic VPIC simulation with parameters carefully selected to match a NASA MMS mission reconnection site observation revealed a signature of the Inner Electron Diffusion Region. Plots show terms in the generalized Ohm’s Law, inferred trajectory of the MMS spacecraft, and the Inner EDR characterized by a strong electron pressure tensor divergence.
