Vibration Assisted Powder Deposition
- Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL), Livermore, CA (United States)
In the recent years, the reliance on additive manufacturing for production has vastly expanded in research fields. While the number of fields wanting to incorporate this new technology ever so advances, the ideal AM systems to complete specific jobs are not always developed and ready to be implemented. This summer, with the help of my mentors, I developed a unique additive manufacturing system that allows for multiple materials to be deposited on a single substrate layer. This AM process relies on acoustic vibrations to assist flow of granular media onto a substrate. By designing and implementing multiple prototypes and collecting data on material and mechanical factors, I was able to explore concepts to make a functioning multi-material deposition system achievable.
