The authors have compared the p and {bar p} angular distributions in 117 million {Xi}{sup -} {yields} {Lambda}{pi}{sup -} {yields} p{pi}{sup -}{pi}{sup -} and 41 million {Xi}{sup +} {yields} {bar {Lambda}}{pi}{sup +} {yields} {bar p}{pi}{sup +}{pi}{sup +} decays using a subset of the data from the HyperCP experiment (ES71) at Fermilab. They find no evidence of CP violation, with the direct-CP-violating parameter A{sub {Xi}{Lambda}} {triple_bond} (a{sub {Xi}}a{sub {Lambda}} - {bar a}{sub {Xi}}{bar a}{sub {Lambda}})/(a{sub {Xi}}a{sub {Lambda}} + {bar a}{sub {Xi}}{bar a}{sub {Lambda}}) = [0.0 {+-} 5.1(stat) {+-} 4.4(syst)] x 10{sup -4}.

A search for direct CP violation in the non-leptonic decays of hyperons has been performed. In comparing the product of the decay parameters, {alpha}{sub {Xi}} {alpha}{sub {Lambda}}, in terms of an asymmetry parameter, A{sub {Xi}{Lambda}}, between hyperons and anti-hyperons in the charged {Xi} {yields} {Lambda}{pi} and {Lambda} {yields} p{sub {pi}} decay sequence, we found no evidence of direct CP violation. The parameter A{sub {Xi}{Lambda}} was measured to be 0.012 {+-} 0.014.

A Measurement of the Branching Ratio of the Weak Radiative Hyperon Decay $$\Xi^0 \to \Lambda \gamma$$

The branching ratio $$\Xi^0 \to \Lambda \gamma$$ / $$\Xi^0 \to \Lambda \pi^0$$ has been measured at the Fermilab National Acceleator Laboratory neutral hyperon facility. 30,000 $$\Xi^0 \to \Lambda \pi^0$$ decays were detected by identifying the subsequent $$\Lambda \to p \pi^-$$ and $$\pi^0 \to \gamma\gamma$$ decays in a multi wire proportional chamber magnetic spectrometer and an array of lead glass. A sample of 6.7 x $10^5$ $$\Lambda = \gamma$$ events were analyzed for $$\Xi^0 \to \Lambda \gamma$$ decays. A sample of 139 ± 12 $$\Xi^0 \to \Lambda \gamma$$ decays were identified. Particle physics: CP violation in hyperon decays

The primary research activities under this grant were in E871 (HyperCP) at Fermilab, a search for CP violation in hyperon decays which completed data taking in January, 2000. HyperCP is an experiment designed to perform a sensitive search for direct CP violation in the decays of cascade ({Xi}) and {Lambda} hyperons by looking for an asymmetry between particle and antiparticle decay parameters.
