I, Improvement of Resonance Ionization Spectroscopy (RIS) techniques; II, Atomic data for RIS; III, Standards for ultratrace analysis. Progress report
(I) Work focused on converting the VG SIMS system into a dual purpose instrument for analysis in SIMS or SIRIS mode, and on a glow discharge source for the NIST magnetic sector mass spectrometer. Ionization efficiencies and selectivities are being studied. (II) The first two groups of 10 elements each have been published; draft data sheets have been completed for a third group of 5 elements; the data base of published and unpublished RIS work has been expanded. (III) Dilution checks are being performed on the {sup 36}Cl standard.
