Development of a Focusing DIRC Detector for Particle Identification
- Univ. of Cincinnati, OH (United States). Dept. of Physics
We have constructed a prototype Direct Ring Imaging $$\check{C}$$erenkov (DIRC) detector in our optics lab to study its performance for identifying pions and kaons. This type of detector will be used for the Belle II experiment now under construction at the KEK laboratory in Japan. To test our prototype, we have constructed a cosmic ray telescope (CRT) that is able to trigger on and reconstruct cosmic ray tracks. We require that the tracks traverse the DIRC detector and study the resulting detector response.
