The motivation for this report is the recent focus of the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) gasification program to develop modular scale gasification processes for electricity generation and other applications. Mass-produced, modular gasification systems have been proposed to decrease the upfront capital costs and to encourage flexible deployment of advanced gasification technology using a diverse set of feedstocks. To fully realize the benefits of advanced gasification technology for power generation as well as other chemical applications, precombustion carbon dioxide (CO₂) capture must be considered.
