Load characteristics of an ETS home
- New York State Electric Gas Corp. (US)
The authors discuss the use of a Metretek solid state, four channel data recorder to monitor the load characteristics of a home equipped with electric thermal storage (ETS) room units. Previous studies monitored the load characteristics of homes equipped with electric resistance heat (non-ETS systems). This paper focuses on one of the homes where a Metretek recorder is being used. It is a retrofit home, originally equipped with resistance heat. After moving into the home and discovering the cost to keep their home warm, the owners looked for alternatives. They became aware of ETS and installed it in the home. The homeowners have been very happy with the change and have saved money. This paper describes in detail the home, the ETS conversion, and presents the load characteristics of this home.
