Title: Fluid power and the environment

Journal Article · · Plant Engineering; (United States)

There have been two basic objections to fluid power equipment: it was loud and leaked. But exhaust mufflers that quiet and capture oil mist, improved quiet and capture oil mist, improved quiet pump designs, application of sound deadening material, refined mounting and piping techniques, and fittings that do not leak have reduced the problems to minor ones. Growing concern with all forms of pollution has provided the impetus to make hydraulic systems cleaner, quieter, and more environmentally friendly. The paper discusses control of exhaust air, hydraulic noise control, oil disposal, oil leaks, and compressed air dryers.
