This paper describes the economic and technical advantages for maintaining and designing good haulage systems at mining sites. It describes the need for good road-surfacing material to reduce wear-and-tear on other equipment. It also discusses good housekeeping practices such as maintaining proper cross grades, drainage ditch control, and cleaning up after spills. Such maintenance procedures are hard work initially but repay dividends through reduced tire and track wear costs, lower fuel bills, reduced operator stress, and reduced potential for accidents.
