The Superfund Amendments and Reauthorization Act of 1986, requires companies to fill out forms and make public information about toxic chemicals used in their plants and released into the air, water and ground. The law has caused some confusion, especially among small and midsize companies. Federal regulators say that compliance has been slower than anticipated. Some companies are responding with public education programs to explain the raw data reported. The implementation experience of the Monsanto Company is highlighted.
