Three methods of dragline installation are considered: turnkey purchasing in which the contractor is hired by the original equipment manufacturer; hiring an independent contractor; or using the mine operator's own crews on site to erect the equipment. The pros and cons of each are discussed. The replacement of a dragline tub for Old Ben Coal Co. in Indiana is described, with an inflatable air structure being used to control the work environment.
