Single gear-pair vehicle differential
An apparatus is described for transforming rotary power conveyable into the apparatus by a drive shaft to rotary power to at least two wheels of a vehicle comprising: (a) a driving gear coupleable to an input power drive shaft, (b) a driven gear meshing with the driving gear, (c) a first half axle rigidly coupled to the driven gear, (d) a second half axle colinear with the first half axle, (e) means for rotatably supporting the driving gear and intermediate longitudinal portions of the first and second half axles, (f) means for rotatably supporting inner facing portions of the first and second half axles in coaxial alignment. The means comprises a coaxial, cylindrical cavity extending perpendicularly inward from an inner face of one of the first and second half axles, and a constricted diameter inner end of the other half axle adapted to fit insertably and rotatably within the cavity, and (g) means for slippably connecting the inner facing ends of the first and second half axles.
