This guide examines the process, the models, and the techniques used by those involved in the development of expert systems for commerce and industry. The author demonstrates procedures, describes approaches, and emphasizes knowledge elicitation, interviewing, and transcript analysis. The book covers aspects such as the roles of the systems analyst and the knowledge engineer; reasoning and probability theory, including statistical tests, correlation, and the Bayes theorem; fuzziness in reasoning; the advantages and the limitations of machine induction; and the repertory grid.
