Abstract

The West Palm Beach quadrangle of south peninsular Florida, covers 8300 square miles of predominantly Floridan Everglades. Extremely thick platform deposits overlie the pre-Cretaceous Peninsular Arch. Surficial exposures are entirely Miocene to Recent in age. A search of available literature revealed no economically feasible uranium deposits. Thirty-two uranium anomalies were detected and are discussed briefly in this report. All appear to have cultural associations, and none appear to contain significant measured quantities of uranium. Magnetic data appear to be roughly in agreement with present structural interpretations, but suggest some lithologic and/or structural complexities in the Paleozoic and older basement material.

The combination Miami and Key West quadrangles cover 4400 square miles of area at the southern tip of peninsular Florida. The area includes moderate to extremely thick sections of Cenozoic and Mesozoic platform deposits of the Southern Florida Sedimentary Basin. Surficial exposures are comprised of Miocene to Recent deposits. A search of the available literature revealed no economically feasible uranium deposits within the area. A total of 16 uranium anomalies were detected by the survey and are discussed briefly. Technical Report

The combined Valdosta and Jacksonville quadrangles cover 10,912 square miles of land in southeastern Georgia and northeastern Florida. The area includes moderately thick sections of platform sediments covering the pre-Cretaceous Peninsular Arch. Surficial exposures are comprised of Tertiary to Recent deposits. A search of available literature revealed no known significant uranium deposits. Forty-three uranium anomalies were detected and are discussed briefly in this report. None appear to be of significance. Magnetic data appear to largely reflect known structure. Smaller linear features present could represent complexities in the Paleozoic and older basement material.
Aerial gamma ray and magnetic survey, Fort Pierce quadrangle, Florida. Final report

Technical Report

The Fort Pierce quadrangle covers 8000 square miles of central peninsular Florida. The region contains a portion of the Peninsular Arch, where Mesozoic and Cenozoic platform deposits overlie igneous and metamorphic basement of Paleozoic or Precambrian age. Miocene and Quaternary biogenic sediments dominate the surface. Several of the formations contain phosphorite deposits that are being mined in the northwest. No uranium deposits are known, but uranium is known to exist in the phoshorites in concentrations higher than the adjacent units. A total of 33 anomalies were detected in the interpretation process. The Tampa quadrangle covers 2100 square miles of land in western peninsular Florida. The area includes moderate to extremely thick sections of Cenozoic and Mesozoic platform deposits, intermediate between the Peninsula Arch and the South Florida Sedimentary Basin. Surficial exposures are comprised of Miocene to Recent deposits. Mining for phosphates is taking place in the northern portion of the area. No known uranium deposits are present within the quadrangle, but the phosphates are known to contain significantly higher than normal amounts of uranium.
