This patent describes an apparatus for converting thermal radiation into mechanical work comprising collector means to receive and concentrate the thermal radiation to generate pressure by vaporizing a working fluid. The collector means have an interior chamber; expansible chamber means is selectively in fluid communication with the collector means and having at least one movable wall; thermally conductive wall means communicate the interior chamber with the expansible chamber, to effect direct thermal communication therebetween; movable piston means operatively associate with the movable wall; connecting rod means have one end secured to the piston means, the other end being suitable for interrelating with a mechanical load.
