Title: The adsorption of anionic and cationic surface-active agents by natural coals

Journal Article · · Solid Fuel Chem. (Engl. Transl.); (United States)
OSTI ID:6429071

Isotherms of the adsorption of isopropylamine, butylamine, and pentylamine and of isopropyl alcohol by coals of types G and A have been measured. It has been shown that the adsorption depends on the type of coal and the structure of the adsorbate molecules; cationic SAAs are adsorbed better than anionic ones. The standard decrease in free energy on the adsorption of the amine by natural coals has been calculated. It has been established that the adsorption of amines by natural coals is accompanied by a rise in the pH of solutions of the adsorbate.
