Conoco gives shot of CO/sub 2/ to reluctant reservoir
The Ford-Geraldine Field in Reeves and Culberson Counties, Texas, has earned itself the title reluctant reservoir. Through initial production and a secondary recovery attempt by waterflood, the unit has yielded only approximately 1/4 of the estimated 93 million bbl of original oil in place, leaving field operators to discover a way of retrieving the approximately 70 million bbl remaining in the ground. As a solution to the field's stubbornness in giving up its oil reserves, Conoco Inc. has implemented a third recovery project involving the injection of 96.9 billion cu ft of carbon dioxide over an 8-yr period. The company hopes to recover an additional 8.45 million bbl which is 11.6% of the remaining oil in place and 9.1% of the original oil in place.
