Mechanism of photopolymerization of butyl methacrylate in presence of mixture of phenazines with benzophenones

The influence of the components of initiating mixtures of phenazines with benzophenones and polarity of the medium on the rate of the overall photopolymerization process of butyl methacrylate was studied during excitation with light at lambda greater than or equal to 420 nm. It was found that the quenching of the tripletly excited states of phenazines by benzophenones depends on the electron-acceptor properties of the latter. From the experimental data and formal kinetic scheme, expressions were obtained for the rate of polymerization. The results of the analysis of these expressions show that polar active products participate in the initiation of the polymerization.
