Users are offered 3-year dels on gas from Canada
ANR Pipeline Co. of Canada is offering three-year contracts to large industrial natural gas users in the Midwest. The spot market price for Canadian gas is $2.10 (US) per thousand cubic feet, and will likely go lower to continue driving down self-help prices. ANR hopes to penetrate US spot markets to 5.8% of the US gas supply this year. The company acknowledges that its refusal to participate in Order 436 in new contract carriage arrangements has been a problem, but users can establish new arrangements under Section 7(c) of the Natural Gas Act of 1938. ANR is also a partner in a venture to build a 379 mile pipeline from Canada to the Northeast US. Canadian exports to the US will remain relatively flat until the gas surplus ends in the early 1990s.
