Lead acetate (0.05 and 0.1%) was given in drinking water to albino rats (120 to 150 g) of both sexes with the matched controls receiving Pb-free water. Conditioned avoidance response (CAR) and unconditioned response (UAR) were determined in a Cook's apparatus and Techno-Y-maze. The group which received Pb simultaneously with training exhibited significant blockage in auditory based learning and performance. The group that received Pb 30 days before training showed defects in learning and performance. 26 references, 2 tables.
