Biotransformation and mineralization of alkylbenzenes under denitrifying conditions
Abstract
Previous laboratory studies have shown that alkylbenzenes could be degraded under denitrifying conditions by indigenous subsurface microbial populations in a shallow water table aquifer at Traverse City (MI) that was contaminated with JP-4 jet fuel. The objective of these tests, was to evaluate the extent of BTEX biodegradation by acclimated and nonacclimated aquifer microorganisms under denitrifying conditions, using radiolabeled compounds either as sole source substrates or in mixtures.
