Various developments aimed toward improved technology and laboratory control and improved production quality in the coking by-product industry over the past 20 years are highlighted. Different aspects of coal charges for coking, such as composition of charge, properties of coal(s) being used in charge, and effects of storage of coal, and the effect of these variables on coke quality are discussed briefly. The treatment of wastes from coking plants and purification of coking gas are also among subjects included.
