From the experience of plant innovators
Eight different innovations used in various plants to improve safety or efficiency of operations are described. These include the following : 1) an electrical signalling system to monitor the level of condensate in the primary gas-cooling devices, 2) an ignition device on each collector to prevent the occurrence of a fire on the pipes over the benzene section of the recovery house, 3) a modification in the design of the shaft that fastens the end rollers on the door cleaning devices, 4) an improved method for cleaning tank wagons to remove residues of the production of tar-treatment workshops to reduce the expenditure of manual labor, 5) a change in design of a vacuum pump, 6) use of the old frames of the Du25 valve at the Kirvoi Rog Coking Plant to prepare the sprayers to dephenolizing scrubbers, 7) coating the steel parts of the ventilation pump absorption system with a layer of glass cloth on cement consisting of liquid glass, diabase powder, and luosilicate of sodium to insure protection from corrosion by H/sub 2/SO/sub 4/ vapors, and 8) installation of a dephlegmator in recovery house no. 2 of the Kommunarsk Coking Plant. In most cases the economic advantage of the device is noted.
