Independents push exploration in Nevada
A busy year is having up for exploration in Nevada. This paper reports that several operators plan rank wildcats and other exploratory tests closer to the state's few producing areas. Pioneer Oil Gas, Salt Lake City, acquired leases in 22n-58e and 23n-58e on the Maverick Springs prospect in White Pine County, Nev. The company the soil gas geochemical surveys resulted in promising indications of propane and butane over the prospect indicative of the presence of hydrocarbons at depth. Pioneer is also seeking industry participation for a 3D seismic survey of its West Grant Canyon prospect in Nye County 5 miles west of prolific Grant Canyon field, which has produced more than 16 million bbl of oil since 1983. A new technique that is an electromagnetic analog to seismic surveying delineated the West Grant Canyon feature.
