The calculation of wave drift forces by using digital complex demodulation to recover the amplitude envelope of an irregular wave train is discussed. Results of scaled (1:48) model basin tests of a moored barge in an irregular sea are used to demonstrate the practicality of the technique. It is also shown that the spectral density of the sway response is related by a linear transfer function to the spectral density of the squared envelope of the incident wavefield.
